Northern Computers and Xplornet have entered into a technology alliance to provide Broad Band WiFi Satellite Internet to Northwestern Ontario.
Satellite Internet Available Throughout Northwestern Ontario
Xplornet is partnered with some of today's leading satellite technology companies, including Telesat Canada, Hughes Network Systems and Tachyon, in order to deliver fast, reliable and affordable two-way satellite high-speed Internet service to homes and businesses everywhere in Canada.
As long as you have a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky you are eligible to receive one of Xplornet's satellite high-speed Internet services.
We currently have Ka-band systems providing internet service to customers in Rossport, Schreiber, Whitesands Lake, Pays Plat First Nation and Nakina!
The Ka-band service, powered by Telesat, is unlike other technologies because it uses a "spot beam" approach to deliver satellite broadband access. In Canada, Telesat uses 15 regional spot beams to provide national broadband coverage. The effect of using spot beams is a more concentrated signal, which results in smaller dish sizes and affordable service package pricing for the end user.
The Ka-band service provides various data transfer speeds and price points to satisfy a wide range of home or business user requirements
Equipment
In order to receive the Ka-band service powered by Telesat, the customer must have an outdoor unit (ODU) - small satellite dish (67 cm) - affixed somewhere on the premises as well as an indoor unit (IDU) - satellite modem - which is connected to the customer's computer.
